  • 2004 Sportoletti Rosso Villa Fidelia Umbria IGT - Italy, Umbria, Umbria IGT (9/1/2009)
nose: vegetable casserole, earth, herbal spice, red berries, charred oak. Over time, the cab franc aromas really took over (in a very pleasing way).
palate: red fruit, ample acidity, fine, sweet tannin, med-plus length.
a very nice bottle. Good depth, med-high acidity. aromatically it reminded me of Bordeaux, but with more acidity on the palate. Juicy & ripe, this bottle really did show superlative structure. The alcohol was on just this side of too potent - minus that, the bottle would be singing. Borderline outstanding.

night 2: alcohol is again too obvious. In addition, the wine seems to be fading fruit-wise. The cab franc nuances from last night are almost entirely gone. Tonight the wine is a shadow of its previous showing. (90 pts.)
